William Meissner, 90, formerly of Northern Drive Lansingburgh, died Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center Guilderland after a brief illness.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late William Henry Meissner and Alda Mae Barton Meissner and husband of the late Anne Marie Finley Schantz Meissner. He had resided in the Troy area all his life and was a graduate of Troy High School , class of 1939.

Mr. Meissner was a head electrician for Behr-Manning and later Norton Company in Watervliet for 43 years, retiring in 1982.

He was an avid NY Yankees fan and a member of the Electricians Union local 438. He served during World War II in the Marine Corp in the South Pacific and was present for the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima. He was in the 341st Squadron Service.

Survivors include his children, John E. Schantz of Wilton, Paul (Judy) Schantz of Canton, MI, Elizabeth A. Schantz (late Bruce) Poillon of Clifton Park, Carol L. Schantz (Bill) Crowley of Clifton Park, Susan (Moe) Duncan of Troy, Gail E. Schillinger of Pittstown, William B. (Linda) Meissner of Troy and Anne L. (Terry) Whitcher of Clifton Park; 19 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; a nephew , John Sorenson and two nieces, Marilyn Berding and Trina Sorenson. He was predeceased by a sister, Irma Sorenson; a cousin, Alda Barton Gailey and a nephew, Edward Sorenson.
