BODY OF SOLDIER RETURNED TO HIS HOME
Shelton, Neb., Aug. 19.—(Special)—The body of Alvah L. Sloan, the first soldier from this community to be killed in action in France during the World War, reached Omaha today from Hoboken, N. J., and will be shipped to Gibbon for burial. His father, John Sloan, of Clifton, Colo., was formerly a well known resident of this community. The young man was killed during a battle at Avrincourt, France, in August, 1918, while serving as a mounted orderly.
Shelton Post No. 297, American Legion, will have charge of the services which are to be held in the Davis park at Gibbon Sunday. A military escort will accompany the body to Gibbon and it will be buried with full military honors. The young man’s mother died several years ago and the body of her soldier son will be buried in the family lot at Riverside cemetery. Grand Island Independent, Tuesday, August 23, 1921
