Andreas Ostertag was a member of Scientology.

He served as the head of the Scientology branch in Stuttgart, Germany when it started there in the beginning of the 1970s.

His sister and brother were additionally members of Scientology and participated actively in the organization.

Towards the end of 1985 Ostertag had traveled to Clearwater, Florida for appointments at the spiritual base of Scientology there.

According to a 1997 article in the St. Petersburg Times of Florida: Ostertag "apparently drowned while swimming to a sailboat anchored off of Fort Desoto Park in 1985. Reports published in Germany earlier this year raised questions about the death."

Representatives of the government in Pinellas County, Florida came to the determination that Ostertag died due to drowning.
