Thoroughbred War Horse and Race Horse. Originally captured from a turkish officer by Captain Robert Byerley in 1686 during the battle of Buda in Hungary.Brought back to Ireland where he was used as a race horse. Only victory came in the spring of 1690 at the Down Royal in Northen Ireland. Later that year Byerley Turk was once again used as a war horse during the battle of the Boyne in Jul 1690 between King James and King William. He returned to England where he fathered two colts named Basto and Jigg.
