John Beers, or Bere, as it was then spelled, was the son of James Bere and Dorothy Kingswood. He was probably born in Rochester, Kent, England. He married Mary Selby, the daughter of Robert Selby of Yorkshire and settled in Gravesend, Kent. John was a juror in Gravesend. John & Mary had five children, all born in Gravesend.
