James L. Adkins, 87, of Van, WV departed from this life at Boone Memorial Hospital on September 2, 2013. He was born on January 28, 1926 and was a devoted member of Bigson Freewill Baptist Church for many years.

He served in the Army in Japan. He was also retired from Eastern Associated Coal where he worked as a coal miner.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Marie Adkins; and daughter, Mary Katherine Baldwin.

He is survived by his son, Donald and Kaye Adkins, daughter, Margaret and Glen Workman, daughter, Gaye and Gary Baisden; son-in-law, Danny Baldwin; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2013 at Bigson Freewill Baptist Church with Lloyd Workman, Anthony Giglio and Jack Meadows officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Memorial Park, Danville.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the church.
