Born in Sumter, she was the daughter of the late Mack Newell Baker and the late Emma Renthy Baker. Mrs. Newman was a member of Temple Baptist Church and was a retired seamstress from Pioneer Ltd.
Surviving are a son, Richard S. Newman and wife, Stephanie, of Sumter; a daughter, Louise N. Summerall of Sumter; three grandchildren, Joe Summerall Jr. and wife, Denise, of Florida, Jennifer McLeod and husband, Brian, and Leigh Bruce and husband, Joe, all of Sumter; four great-grandchildren, Kelsey Newman, Elyse Summerall, Matthew Bruce and Dylan McLeod; one brother, O'Neal Baker of Sumter; and a special friend, Daniel Lackey.
Mrs. Newman was preceded in death by four brothers, Elbert H. Baker, Samuel Baker, Newell Baker and Oliver Baker; two sisters, Cornelia B. Britton and Myrtle B. Britton; and two grandchildren, Angela Summerall and Tammy Summerall.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Allan Glass officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home.
