Nelson Crowell was born 1821 in Hamilton, New York, to parents Abraham and Betsey (Wheeler). He was one of ten children.
Around 1848 he married Catherine Elizabeth Ball inside Ball Hill Church at Villenova Township, Chautauqua County, New York. He made his living as a farmer in Villenova and he and Catherine raised two children, Deforest Daniel and Alice Adelia.
Nelson passed away in 1874 and is now laid to rest in Ball Hill Cemetery in Forestville, NY.
