Willard C. Carby
Streator - Willard C. Carby 69, Petersburg, and formerly of Streator, died at 5:45 p.m. Saturday (March 22, 1986) at St. John’s Hospital, Petersburg. He was in ill health for the past several days.
His funeral will be a mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Stephen’s Church, Streator. Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Winterrowd Funeral Home, Streator. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
He was born April 5, 1916, at Toluca, the son of Louis and Melissa Akridge Carby. He married Lucille Bednar on May 17, 1941, at Streator. She died in 1972.
Survivors include two sons, Willard L., of Wooddale and Robert R., Streator; a daughter, Karen M. Carby, Springfield; nine grandchildren; a brother, Leroy, Tucson, Ariz.; four sisters, Barbara Smith, Bloomington; Helen Paris, Bloomington; Bernice Gerdes, Benson; and Irene Jordan, Streator.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, two sisters and a granddaughter.
He was a retired farmer in the Long Point/Dana areas. He was also formerly employed by the Dana Elevator. He worked for Rittenhouse Manufacturing in Long Point and transferred in 1967 to Petersburg.
He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Petersburg.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 06871, the American Legion 198, the Knights of Columbus and the Royal Neighbors, all of Streator. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Navy.
