STREATOR - Mrs. Melissa J. Carby, 84, died at 11:30 p.m. Friday at St. Mary's Hospital, Streator following a lingering illness.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Winterrowd Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas E. Grove officiating. Burial will be in Rutland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
She was born July 16, 1885 in Grayson County, Kentucky the daughter of Thomas and Nancy Nunn Akridge. She married Louis Carby Dec. 6, 1904 in Grayson County, Ky. He died in 1960.
She is survived by three sons, Wavely, Dana; Willard, Petersburg; Leroy, Pomona, Calif; four daughters, Mrs. Ernest Smith, Chenoa; Mrs. Arvil Paris, Bloomington; Mrs. Albert Gerdes, Benson; Mrs. James Jordan, Streator; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jennie Williams, Streator; Mrs. Frankie Willis, North Liberty, Ind.; one brother, Clarence Akridge, Walnut. She was preceded in death by two daughters, two grandsons, and one great-granddaughter.
She had lived in the Streator area the greater part of her life. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Streator.
