They had three daughters: Nellie, born in October 1859; Grace, born October 1868, some years after her father had returned from military service and finally, Alice E., born December 1876. Catherine died on 19 November 1913 in Rochester. Cause of death was given as apoplexy. She was 72 years, 10 months, 24 days of age.
