Annie married William H. Taylor in Philadelphia on September 16, 1884. William was attending Princeton College, but left school after marrying Annie. This resulted in an extended estrangement between Annie and the Taylor Family who had wanted William to complete college.
Annie and William lived together in Philadelphia and had six children, shown below in order of birth:
Robert Merritt (1885-1892)
Elizabeth Viola (1887-1966)
William Hackett (1893-1958)
Mae (~1896-1961)
Ruth Emeline (1901-1983)
Frank Merritt (1903-1920)
Annie's husband William died on September 26, 1904 from tuberculosis, an infection of the lungs.
Annie appears to have been a very enterprising woman who took a variety of jobs to sustain her family. At one period in her life, she worked as a House Cook for the Dupont Family in Wilmington, Delaware.
The 1910 US Census indicated that the widowed Annie was living in Philadelphia with her children; William H., Mae, Ruth, and Frank.
Based on the 1920 US Census, sometime between 1910 and 1920, it appears that Annie had remarried to David Miller, also from Philadelphia. Annie, David and four of the Taylor children; William, Mae, Ruth, and Frank (listed as Merritt) are shown as living at 2115 North Eleventh Street in Philadelphia.
The 1930 US Census shows that Annie was then living with her widowed daughter Ruth E. McAndrews at 2234 Diamond Street on the south side of Philadelphia.
Prior to her death in 1951, Annie was living with her son in-law and daughter, George J. and Bessie V. (Taylor) Ristine in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania.
Annie died on August 4, 1951. Causes of her death were complications following a fall she had at her nursing home. These included Bronchial Pneumonia and a fractured right femur.
The following obituary was published in the Philadelphia Inquirer on August 7, 1951:
"TAYLOR - Aug. 6, ANNIE A. (nee Merritt), widow of William H. Taylor, of 130 Powell Lane, Upper Darby. Relatives and friends invited to services, Wed., 1 P. M., Funeral Home of J. Harry Stroud, 600-02 63d St. Int. Mt. Peace Cemetery. Friends may call Tues. evening."
