August Schnarr was born in October 1842 in Germany. He emigrated to the US in 1880. He married Hannah B. Koerber (nee Pruner), widow of John Koerber on February 18, 1887 in Chehalis, Washington. Hannah had two daughters by her first husband - Margaretta and Anna. Hannah had four more children with August: August, Gustav, Minnie, and Johnny (who made a name for himself as a rum runner on the pacific coast during Prohibition). August, Hannah and the children lived primitively in the Cold Creek area of Chehalis. They raised bear and lion cubs. August was a logger. In fact, he was at work when he was killed by being run over by a railway jittney in Walville, WA.
