Grandson of Joseph B. Wilmeth and great-grandson of Collin McKinney.John was a apiarist and a farmer. In 1900 he and Mary E. Annie Magers were married at the Wimeth Chapel. They lived their entire married life at the old Wilmeth homestead. All seven of their children were born in the home: Drury Metz, Joe Magers, Collin Leak, Clara Belle, J.B., Armyn Odell, and Ridgell Murphy.
The old home stood almost a century holding within itself a wealth of history of the pioneer days of Collin County. The home changed ownership only three times. It was built by J.B. Wilmeth, then owned by John Brice McKinney's mother, Martha Marilea McKinney, and following her death by John. The old home was razed in 1941 but much of the materials were used in the modern home now built.
