Member of Parliament and city founder. Shortly after the war of 1812, George Hamilton laid out a townsite in Barton Twp Ontario. It quickly grew and outsized neighboring towns, becoming Canada's 10th largest city by year 2000. Several of the street names in the city of Hamilton were labelled in recognition of George Hamilton’s family members. Those streets named for Hamilton’s family members were James, John, Catherine, Augusta, Hannah (now Charlton Avenue), Maria (now Jackson Street).
