CEYLON - Funeral service for Irleen A. Deling, 92, of Ceylon, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 17, at the United Methodist Church in Fairmont. Burial will follow in Tenhassen Township Cemetery near Ceylon. Visitation will be 58 p.m. Monday, September 16, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Irleen passed away Friday morning, Sept. 13, 2013, at the Ingleside Residence in Fairmont.

Irleen Ada Palmer was born on Dec. 22, 1920, in Rolling Green Township, Martin County, to Major and Miriam (nee Lamperd) Palmer. She grew up in Ceylon, Minn., and attended District 39 county school. She graduated from high school in 1939. On Dec. 30, 1938, she married Herman Deling, also of Ceylon.

Irleen initially worked as a housekeeper for a neighbor family. Later she worked at Stokely-Van-Camp in Fairmont, followed by becoming a nurse's aide and working for several years at the Lutz Wing at the Fairmont Community Hospital, and as a home health aide for Prairie River Home Care. Irleen was filled with kindness toward others and lived by the Golden Rule. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening, raising laying hens, baking, as well as spending time with her children and many grandchildren. Her family and friends particularly enjoyed her homemade bread, buns, and apple pies. She was a member of the Ceylon United Methodist Church and the Ceylon Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She and Herman were also the caregivers of the Tenhassen Cemetery for many years.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Herman Deling of Ceylon; children, Orville (Irene) Deling of Fairmont, Russell (Brenda) Deling of Dolliver, Iowa, Leroy Deling of Fairmont, Minn., Loren (Marilyn) Deling of Rochester, Minn., Mary Deling of Stewartville, Minn., Marlin (Lori) Deling of Ramsey, Minn., and Marjorie (Scott) Kittleson of Aitkin, Minn.; 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Arza (Doris) Palmer of Albert Lea, Minn., and Harold (Darlene) Palmer of Brainerd, Minn.; sister-in-law, Valerie Palmer of Blue Earth, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

Irleen was preceded in death by her parents, Major and Miriam Palmer; in-laws, Henry and Lena Deling; brothers, Dewey Palmer and James Palmer; brother-in-law, Raymond Deling; sisters-in-law, Grace Lysholm, Ann Gjerstad, and Joann Bowman; two nieces, two nephews, and one granddaughter.
