Private family services for Leroy H. Deling, 71, of Fairmont, MN, will be held at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont with full military honor by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post #36 and the Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1222. Burial will be in Tenhassen Township Cemetery rural Ceylon, MN. Leroy passed away peacefully on November 24, 2020 at Mercy Hospital in Fridley, MN. The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Leroy H. Deling was born to Herman and Irleen (Palmer) Deling on March 12, 1949 in Fairmont, MN. Leroy grew up in and around the rural Fairmont/ Ceylon, MN area. He graduated from Ceylon High School in 1968. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1969 and received a medical discharge in 1970. He married Connie Tesdahl in 1976. They divorced in 1982. This union welcomed daughter Jessica in 1977. He and Fonda Fugate would welcome a son, Dustin in 1984.
Growing up, Leroy enjoyed horseback riding, tobogganing, roller skating and playing checkers. As a teenager and young adult, he worked for various farmers in the Fairmont/ Ceylon area until he became disabled. Leroy lived most of his adult life in Fairmont, MN. In his later years, he lived for a time in Mankato, MN where he enjoyed spending time with his daughter and grandchildren. For the past two years, he resided at The Emeralds Nursing Home in Faribault, MN. Leroy enjoyed time visiting with his brothers and sisters and their families. He always enjoyed going out for a good meal or for a doughnut and cup of coffee.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents and several aunts and uncles. He is survived by his daughter Jessica (Jesse) Bejarano of Mankato, MN; grandchildren Dylan, Jordan, Braydan, and Madison; son Dustin of Minneapolis, MN; brothers Orville (Irene) of Fairmont, MN, Russell (Brenda) of Dolliver, Iowa, Loren (Marilyn) of Rochester, MN, Marlin (Lori) of Ramsey, MN; sisters Mary Deling (Dale Elford) of Stewartville, MN, Marjorie (Scott) Kittleson of Sherburn, MN; Uncle Harold (Darlene) Palmer of Brainerd, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
