Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama, immediately followed by the 3 p.m. service in Southern Heritage Chapel, Pelham. Eloise was born September 21, 1925, the seventh of eight children, to Tommy and Minnie Bell Logan in Saline, Louisiana. After graduating as Valedictorian from Saline High School, Eloise moved to Shelby County, Alabama, where she met and married Wilbur Leon "Pap" Swindall in 1945. The Swindalls had two daughters, Lynne and Beth.
Eloise and Pap were faithful members of Crestway Baptist Church in Birmingham, where they raised their girls in the church. Eloise served as a Children's Sunday School teacher for many years and later enjoyed the Friendship Ladies' Sunday School class.
Eloise was defined by her work ethic. She worked at Liberty National Insurance and then Altec Industries in the payroll department. She retired in 1991 from Altec, but after her husband's passing, she returned to the workforce part-time at Compass Bank, where she worked until she was 80 years old.
Above all, Eloise loved her family. She was a dedicated and loving mother to Lynne and Beth. Later in life, Eloise cherished her only grandchild, Stephanie, and adored her three great-grandsons. Eloise was a supportive mother-in-law to Lynne's husband, Jerry, and Stephanie's husband, Jason. Eloise truly loved her "granddog" Millie, who visited with Eloise often at Fair Haven Retirement Community, where Eloise spent the last months of her life.
Eloise was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Logan; her husband, W.L. Swindall; and her daughter, Lynne Swindall Smith. Survivors include Eloise's daughter, Beth Swindall Dercole; brother, Tommy Logan (Vida); granddaughter, Stephanie Smith Woodard (Jason); great-grandsons, Mitchell Smith Woodard, Charles Logan Woodard, and Oliver Lynn Woodard; son-in-law, Jerry L. Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved.
