Eva Mathews, 88, a resident of Ethel and longtime resident of Baker, was born in Bienville Parish on May 17, 1922, and passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010, at her home in Ethel. After battling and overcoming cancer and surviving many years with scleroderma, she died from the ravages of dementia.

She loved gardening, raking leaves and scratching in her flowerbeds. She was a very sweet lady and will be greatly missed by all who loved her, even by her "kids," Louie and Daisy.

Survived by her son, Richard Dale Mathews and wife Dezi, of Irrigon, Ore.; daughter, Peggy Lee and husband Bradley, Ethel; grandson, Ricky Mathews, Jarreau; six great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. Also survived by her sister, Eloise Swindall, Birmingham; and brother, Tommy Logan and wife Vida, Baker; sisters-in-law, Barbara Sutton, Bryceland, and Virginia Rae Bates, Friendship; and brother-in-law, Jack Mathews, Baker.

Preceded in death by her parents, Tom Dooley Logan and Minniebelle Cinderella Dison Logan; husband, Dalford "Bob" Mathews; grandson, Robert Dainis Mathews; sisters, Maybelle Ross, Mary Frances Cheatwood Walton; and brothers, Rufus Logan, Lewis Logan and J.W. Logan.

She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Baker and most recently a member of Olive Branch Baptist Fellowship, Slaughter.

Arrangements entrusted to Baker Funeral Home. Interment in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
