Private Matthew ALGER enlisted from Olneyville in Company C, and was mustered, August 1st, 1861. He was an operative by occupation, and at the time of enlistment was twenty years old. He was wounded in the battle of Salem Heights, May 3rd,1863, and died in hospital, May 14th. (Second Rhode Island Regiment: A Narrative of Military Operations by Augustus Woodbury; Providence: Valpey, Angell & Co., 1875)
