News-Herald - Apr. 22, 1897 pg.8
NEVIN APRIL 19, 1897
Death came unexpectedly to us all last week. It took away two from the same family, father and daughter.
Mr. Eli Cailey, an aged man, of near this place, died at his home of pneumonia, at one a.m., Thursday, and Friday at two p.m., his daughter Elizabeth Jacks, died of the same disease. Funeral services took place Sunday at two p.m. at the Reform Church. Both funerals were preached at the same time, after which both bodies were laid to rest until the resurrection morn, in the Chapman cemetery. Mr. Cailey has left a wife, one daughter and four sons, and a host of friends to mourn his loss. Mrs. Jacks has left her companion, one sister, four brothers, one stepson and a host of friends to mourn her loss.

News-Herald - Apr. 1897 pg. 5
Eli Cailey, an old and respected citizen, died about noon Friday at his late home in Danville. His daughter, Mrs. D.B. Jacks, who had been waiting on him during his illness, was taken down with a severe cold, and died Saturday morning about one o'clock, at her home near Danville. Thee was scarcely twelve hours time between the deaths of father and daughter.

Note: A brief article in the same newspaper mentions another daughter of Eli Cailey, Mrs. George Pickerel, who received word last Friday of the death of her father and sister.
