WILSON EMPEY DIES IN CRASH NEAR ARLINGTON
Automobile accidents brought death to a former McMinnville resident and injury to 12 persons in a series of mishaps, occurring during the past week. Wilson Empty, graduate of McMinnville high school and Linfield college, was killed Monday night on the Columbia river highway near Arlington. Six other accidents in the past week occurred in Yamhill county and one in Lincoln county in which four McMinnville residents were injured.
Empty was killed when the car in which he was riding, driven by M.L. Wooley of Portland, over-turned after striking an icy section of pavement on a curve. He was thrown 150 feet from the car and was not seen by passersby who took Wooley to The Dalles hospital. Later Empey was found by a stage and taken to the hospital. His chest was crushed and he died that night.
He was 26 years old, a member of the McMinnville Elks lodge and well known here. He was in McMinnville last weekend and had returned to his work as district sealer of weights and measures for the state department of agriculture. His parents live in Junction City.
