William was born June 24, 1916, in Altoona, Pa., to the late Nevitt and Merle Louder.
He also was a resident of Williamsport, Pa., and Vero Beach, Fla., until moving to Holland, in 1989. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, the former Janet Mae Leedy Louder.
William was a native of Altoona, and he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1938.
He was commissioned as an ensign in the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1938 and was called to active duty in 1941. He served in the Navy in the Bureau of Ships until 1946, advancing to the rank of Lt. Commander.
After returning to Williamsport, he continued with the Naval Reserve and was promoted to the rank of Commander and served as commanding officer of two naval reserve training units in Williamsport.
William retired from Bethlehem Steel as a general manager. He started his career as an engineer in product development in the wire mill. He became assistant general manager in 1972, and retired as general manager in 1975.
William was a life member of the Wire Assoc., a former member of the Williamsport-Lycoming Chamber of Commerce, the John F. Laedleir Lodge 707, Free and Accepted Masons. He was an Eagle Scout, and a former executive committee member of the West Branch Council of BSA.
William is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Michael Wert of New Hope; and a brother, James of Longwood, Fla.
Relatives and friends are invited to William's funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 29, at Thompson Memorial Presbyterian Church, 288 Aquetong Road, New Hope, and to his graveside services following a reception at the church.
