In 1880 he and his wife, their four children, a servant, and a boarder lived in Kittanning, PA. He worked as a billiard hall keeper.

In 1900 he and Emma and their nine children lived in a place they were renting in Ward 7 in Canton, OH. He worked as a glass blower. Three of their children worked in rolling mills--Harry as a matcher, Della as a solderer, and James as a scraper.

In 1920 he lived with his mother and one of his granddaughters--13-year-old Mary Graham--in a place they were renting in Ward 25 in Pittsburgh, PA.

In 1930 he lived with his daughter Matilda and her husband and their son in a house they owned at 1503 Rutherford Avenue in Pittsburgh. Their home was valued at $7000 and they did have a radio. His son-in-law worked as an assistant office supervisor in an office building.
