Gonzales County Man Observes 100th Year

A Gonzales county man celebrate the centennial of his birth in this, the Bicentennial Year of America's birth.
The party for Ben Lee was held Friday, Jan. 23, at his home between Moulton and Gonzales where he has lived his 100 years.
Lee was born Jan. 23, 1876 near the Nickle community. His parents were Simon and LetetievLee. He attended school at the Winton School north of Dilworth.
A major event in Lee's life was when he was converted to devote his life to Christ. He says the Rev. Johnson of Cuero led him to his Saviour at an early age. He attended the St. James Baptist church in Cuero and as later named a deacon in the Rockford Baptist church.
The centenarian says that living your life right is the way to achieve a long life. He made that point and the importance of faith in Christ several times in a letter he wrote at age 99 to the Moulton Eagle.
Lee was married in 1897 to Quilar Williams and they had 10 children. Five children survive and have given him many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. After the death of his first wife he remained a widower until Nov. 29, 1939 when he remarried.
A farmer, Lee has lived at his present home since 1911.
Evidence of his love for his children and friends and neighbors was seen in the many people coming to visit him. Lee doesn't get out very much, but he was active until only recently. The letter he wrote on his 99th birthday and the Moulton Eagle report stated his interest in vents both local and national.
