Government Service AUGUSTA, Ga.- Bertha V. Todd, age 85, of Augusta entered into rest on Thursday evening, January 29, 2004 at her residence. A native of Aliquippa, Penn., she had resided in the Augusta area since moving here in 1950 with her husband's assignment at Fort Gordon. In 1943, she enlisted in the military in Sacramento, CA, being the third female to join the Women's Army Corps. After serving during WW II in Europe she was discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1947. She joined the Civil Service ranks of Fort Gordon during the 1960's where she worked in the Student Officer's Personnel Office until the early 1970s. She was a member of the American Legion, Jack C. Fortune Post 205, Augusta, where she was honored by being selected Post Commander in the early 1990s, being the first female to serve as Post Commander of any American Legion Post in the state of Georgia. She had been a member of Pierce Memorial Methodist Church since the 1950s. She is preceded in death by her husband, Eustis D. Todd and one son, Ralph George Todd. She is survived by their 2 sons, David Todd and his wife Kelley, Appling, Ga., Michael Todd, Milner, Ga.; 1 sister, Elizabeth Coss, Aliquippa, Penn.; 5 grandchildren, Kristi Newman, Stasi Parrish, Trevor Todd, Allen Todd, Matthew Todd; 3 great grandchildren, Mandalin Newman, Kaleb Newman, T.J. Todd, and numerous nieces and nephews. Interment will be in Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Grovetown, Ga.
