Ms. Phyllis Boykin, beloved daughter of James and Gladys Boykin was born on October 20, 1956 in Baltimore, Maryland. On Tuesday, February 1, 2000 after a prolonged illness God quietly called Phyllis into Eternal Rest. One son Dewayne Boykin preceded Phyllis in death.
Phyllis was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System, receiving her High School Diploma from the Calvert Adult Center. Phyllis attended the Dundalk Community Collage for three years until her health interrupted her studies.
"Big Phyl",as she was affectionately called by everyone who loved and knew her. People who met "Big Phyl" once remembered "Big Phyl's" warm and lively personality. Everyone would ask how's "Big Phyl"? Phyllis was well known for reminding you to watch programs and special events that came on the television. Phyllis was called our walking T.V. Guild. Phyllis loved the challenge of a good crossword puzzle, while eating popcorn in her spare time. Phyllis loved to read The Words of God. Phyllis could quote Bible verses and scriptures without research. Phyllis spent her Saturday mornings listening to Bishop Cornelius Showell on the radio. If anyone called Phyllis between 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., Phyllis would say, "Girl, I got to call you back when Bishop Showell goes off the air".
Phyllis was Baptized by The Reverend James L. Hickey at The United Church Of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Phyllis later transferred her membership to The First Apostolic Faith Church Of Jesus Christ,Inc., under the leadership of The Bishop Cornelius Showell until her health began to fail.
Phyllis's favorite text was Psalm:31,"In thee, O Lord, I put my trust". In the midst of everything, trails, sickness and hospital visits, Phyllis never doubted her God. Phyllis would often say,"I am not afraid of death. To be absent from this body is to be present with God. I have prepared for the day that God will call me Home. Jesus has fixed it for me years ago and it's alright now. When I pass over to the other side, I'll wait to greet you all there. Meanwhile, I want everyone to rejoice and have Church, for joy comes in the morning".
