He was the son of Robert Anderson "Bob" and Mary Elizabeth (Sisk) Ables and married Pearl Lena Hall - 02 Jan 1912 - Lincoln Co., Tennessee. His obituary follows:
Funeral services for Joe E. Ables, aged 63 years, were held Sunday afternoon at the Wilson Funeral Home chapel, at 2:30 o'clock, with Elders I. C. Pullias and R. A. Largen officiating. Burial was in Old Lebanon Cemetery, near Harms. Mr. Ables had been in ill health for several years prior to his death Saturday night at his home in the 12th district. He was a son of the late R. A. and Mary Sisk Ables, and was born and raised in Lincoln County. He was a member of the Church of Christ, and a prominent farmer of Lincoln County. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Pearl Hall Ables, and five children: two daughters, Mrs. Leon Mitchell of Huntsville, Alabama, and Mrs. E. W. Braden of Nashville; three sons, Joe Ables, Jr. of Chicago, Illinois, Robert Ables and William Ables, both of Lincoln County; three brothers, Thomas Ables, Roy Ables, and R. A. Ables, all of Lincoln County; one sister, Mrs. James Hill of Huntsville, Alabama; ten grandchildren, and a host of friends. Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
