Daniel Blaine Cochran, 60, of Sanford, died Monday evening, April 26, 2010, at his residence, after a long battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 7, 1950, in Midland, son of Madeline (Stockton) Cochran of Midland and the late Charles Cochran. Dan was raised in Midland, attended Midland schools, and was a 1968 graduate of Midland High School. In 1969 he joined the U.S. Navy, serving during the Vietnam era, and was honorably discharged in 1973. On March 21, 1970, he married the former RoseMary Sprague in Midland, she survives him. In January of 1975, Mr. Cochran was employed by the U.S. Postal System, working at the Midland Post Office as a letter carrier. He retired in 2005 after 35 years of government service. He was involved in Little league and Boy Scouts, serving as leader of Sanford Troup 776 for several years. He loved animals, especially his dog, Rocky, enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Kalkaska, and also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving besides his wife, RoseMary are his two children and spouses, Jacquelene and Jerry Huggard of Midland, and Ronald and Christie Cochran of Mt. Pleasant; two grandchildren, Haeley Huggard, and Cooper Huggard; his brothers and sisters and their spouses, Sherry and Larry DuFort of Midland, and Brenda Riggie of Midland; brothers and sisters-in-law, Terry and John Snell of Midland, Nancy and Bob Snell of Midland, Vicky VanAllen of Ventura, Calif., Kathy and Ricky Klug of Midland, and Jeff and Christine Sprague of Nunica. In addition to his father, Daniel was predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wayne and Vera Sprague; brother-in-law, Michael Riggie; and a special cousin, Mickey Cochran.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m., Friday, April 30, 2010, from the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 W. Wheeler St., Midland. The Rev. James A. Smith will officiate with committal services to follow in the Sanford Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Dan's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services.
