Obituary for Dorothy Kotuby

Bailey Island—Dorothy Kotuby, age 85, died Monday December 29, 2008 at a local hospital.

She was born February 6, 1923, in Hudson, NY a daughter of Col. William G. and Marjorie Blauvelt Carswell. She graduated from Rahway High School, NJ in 1941 and earned her Associate's Degree in Secretarial Science from Packard College, NYC in 1942. She married George M. Kotuby on August 7, 1954, in West Palm Beach, FL.

She worked as a secretary for the Spokane, WA Army Air Depot and Phoenix, AZ Depot where she earned her private pilot's license. She also was employed by the Rahway Ration Board, Veteran's Office and the Rahway High School Guidance Office. Later she served as the Director of Health & Safety, American Red Cross Blood Services, Greater Eastern Union County Chapter, NJ and was the Executive Director of the American Red Cross, Rahway NJ Chapter.

After moving to Maine in 1986, Dorothy continued to volunteer locally as a CPR instructor for the American Red Cross, Mid Coast Maine Chapter. Overall, she served the American Red Cross for over 64 years. She was a member of the Orr's and Bailey Islands Fire Department Board of Directors, serving as treasurer for over 10 years, and was a recipient of their annual Outstanding Community Service Award. She was very active in the Associataion of Blauvelt Descendants, her family genealogy association, serving as treasurer for 14 years. She was a communicant of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Brunswick and All Saints' Chapel, Orr's Island.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Craig Randall of Rahway, NJ; a daughter Janice Kotuby-Amacher of North Logan, UT; and a grandson, Jeffrey V. Kotuby of Rahway, NJ.
