Dorothy McFarland, the daughter of Elmer Lee McFarland and Mary Beatrice (Humphreys) McFarland, was born July 12, 1929, in Newton, Iowa.

Dorothy was a lifelong resident of Newton. She had enjoyed her many years working at Progress Industries. Her loving personality and happy disposition caused all who knew her, to love her. Dorothy attended the First Assembly of God in Newton. Over the years, she had won many awards at the Special Olympics. She was a great tease and always enjoyed teasing members of her family, caregivers and friends.

Dorothy died on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Nelson Manor in Newton. She was 84 years young. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Edward, Jerry, Donald, Richard and Lee McFarland and a sister, Ruth Cole.

Those left to honor Dorothy's memory include her sisters, Bea Anderson of Colorado, Karen Warehime of Colorado, Bonnie Nelson of Newton and Sharon Laurienti of Davenport, Iowa; her brothers, Charles McFarland of Newton; many nieces and nephews her many caregivers and her many friends at Progress Industries.
