Services for the Rev. Boyce Evans, 78, of Lubbock was held at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Dagnell officiating and John Ballard assisting.

Burial was in Resthaven Mausoleum under the direction of White Funeral Home in Lubbock. He died on March 15, 2003.

He was born June 6, 1923, in Lynn County. He graduated from Tahoka High School, Hardin-Simmons in 1949, Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth in 1954 and Luther Rice Seminary in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1976. He received an honorary doctorate from Loma Linda University in San Diego, California.

Boyce was a former member of Hardin-Simmons University's board of trustees and board of development. He also was a member of the HSU School of Music Foundation and a recipient of the school's Keeter award for distinguished alumni. He was employed by the school for four years in the late 1960s as a field development representative. Prior to working for the university, he was a pastor in Abernathy, Midland, Mansfield and Seagraves. He served as a full time evangelist from 1969 until his death.
He married Mary Hargett on May 9, 1942, in Wichita Falls. He moved to Lubbock in 1965 from Abernathy. He ministered from 1946 to 1965. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and was an Air Force captain and a Veteran of the Korean War. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzanne Evans Granbury.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Evan of Edmond, Oklahoma, and David "Slim" of Lubbock; four grandchildren; and three great-grand children.

The family suggested memorials to Hospice of Lubbock or to Evangelism Department at First Baptist Church.
