CIVIL WAR

He enlisted on 25 Aug 1864 for one years’ service. He was 23 years old, a resident of Taylor Falls, MN, married, born in Colchester, Canada, and was a farmer. He was never promoted. He was mustered out with the unit on 16 Aug 1865 at Fort Snelling, MN.

-------

He married Aurelia (Parrish) Lovejoy on 16 Nov 1862, and they had at least 5 children: Amanda (1869-1921), Arthur (b.1871), Alfredy (b.1874), Oscar (b.1876), and Almorella (b.1878). Aurelia died in Shelton, Washington, on 13 Oct 1891.

He became a member of the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, WI, on 8 Jan 1896, coming from Washburn County, WI.

He married Susan (Humes) Russell on 24 Jun 1896 in Waupaca County, WI. The widow of a Civil War veteran, she had also become a member of the Veterans Home that year. She survived him.

It appears that the Veterans Home transferred him to the Northern Hospital in Oshkosh; he is listed on the 1905 Veterans’ Census as a resident of Oshkosh. He then appears at the Dunn County Asylum, where he died on 16 Jun 1910. Because his official residence remained at the Veterans Home in Waupaca County, his estate was probated in that county.

He was first buried at the Dunn County Asylum Cemetery.

In 1934, his remains were disinterred and re-interred at Evergreen Cemetery in Menomonie, WI.
