Myrtle was born in Jamestown on January 25, 1915 in Jamestown, to Christ and Edith (Gallagher) Christensen. Myrtle was the ninth born of eleven siblings. The family farmed on a homestead just a mile north of Jamestown. Myrtle loved her family and stated that she was maybe the happiest girl in the whole world when asked about her life on the farm.
Myrtle and Vern Batesole were united in marriage on August 11, 1934. From that union came 3 children. Myrtle was very nurturing of her family in every way. She was constant in her unconditional love, guidance, and example to her children.
Myrtle enjoyed her 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren. Everyone loved going to grandma's house or having grandma come to theirs. She always had a special treat for all of them. She was so much more than just a grandma. She was a caregiver, a playmate, a teacher, a supporter, an advisor, a story-teller, and a best friend. She brought joy and laughter to their lives every day. Without realizing it, she provided beautiful memories in so many ways that will live on for generations.
Myrtle worked for the Igloo Café in Jamestown for many years. She and Vern moved to Pingree, ND and owned and ran the Pingree Café and Service Station for several years. Her last years working were spent as a cook for the Pingree school. After Myrtle retired, she moved from Pingree to the Gardenette Apartments in Jamestown where she resided for the next 28 years. In 2007 she suffered a stroke and moved in with her daughter, Donna. Myrtle and Donna moved to Edina, MN, in August 2010, where she resided until her death.
Myrtle enjoyed spending time with her family, playing bingo and card games, baking and cooking, reading, and watching games show and MN Twins baseball.
Myrtle is survived by two daughters, Doreen (Dallas) Machovsky, Grafton, ND and Donna Foster, Edina, MN; daughter-in-law, Bonnie "Patty" Batesole, Jamestown, ND; grandchildren, Vernon (Monica) Batesole, Bismarck, ND, Cindy Hamilton, Mound, MN, Joan (Kenny) John, Horace, ND, Jay (Sheri) Batesole, Fargo, ND, Troy (Kassie) Machovsky, Watertown, NY, Jill (Mike) Andrews, Grafton, ND, Kylie (Terry) DePriest, Flaxton, ND, Jaime Foster, Bloomington, MN and Bryce Foster, Burien, WA and all of her great and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son, John "Jack" Batesole; siblings and their spouses, Bernette (AE) Thomas; Vernon Christensen; Mildred (Ray) Gushwa; Bonnie (Frank) Peterson; Harry (Bernice) Christensen, Morris (Vi) Christensen, Jessie (Phil) Boehm, Niels (Evelyn) Christensen, Pearl (Verlon) Ross and John (Isabelle) Christensen.
