Aurore Charest was the second oldest of seven children born to Prosper Zephirin E. Charest and Alexandrine Lecroix. She met her husband Joseph Francis Conklin, who was a mail carrier, while she was working as a bookkeeper at The Grimord Brothers hardware store on Center Street. The couple married on October 12, 1921, at St. Rose of Lima Church and lived at 27 Dexter Ave, across the street from Joe's mother Teresa Keegan Conklin. They had six children in 11 years: Joe Jr., Jim, Elphy, Donald (Gus), Walter Michael and Anne, retired sister of Mercy. She died at the age of 87.
