Joseph Francis Conklin was the eldest of six children born to James and Teresa (Keegan) Conklin. He married Aurore Charest on October 12, 1921 in St. Rose of Lima Church in Meriden CT. They had six children and the family lived on 27 Dexter Avenue in Meriden CT across the street from his mother's home.
Joe left school at age 12 to help support his mother and four other siblings after his father died in 1894 by working in a piano factory. He worked for a time at the Charles Parker Co. and then became a letter carrier with the Meriden Post Office where he worked his way up to Assistant Postmaster for the Meriden Post Office, retiring in 1954. Joe died at age 79 on December 6, 1963.
