Abraham was a chairmaker in New York City, and his place of business was 13 Bowery. He was married in New York City on 12 June 1825 to Ann Betts, the daughter of William Betts and Margaret Post. They had several children who are named in the 1850 census, when the family lived in Williamsburgh (now a part of Brooklyn). His will was dated 9 April 1868, and he died the following February. Known children:

* John D., b. 23 Oct 1826, d. 1873

* Margaret, b. 8 Aug 1828, m. John Titus

* Abraham, b. c. 1831, d. 1833, aged 1 year 11 months

* Mary, b. 4 Dec 1833

* Anna, b. c. 1836, d. 1896, m. Michael Gallaudet

* Angeline, b. 1839

* Fanny Augusta, b. 1 Oct 1840 and bapt. Nov 1850
