GRACE — James Alma Benson, 89, of Grace, passed away Friday morning, March 15, 2002, at the Bannock Regional Medical Center in Pocatello. Mr. Benson was born April 1, 1912, at Newton, Utah, the son of Daniel Alma and Emma Elizabeth Hansen Benson. He was raised and educated in the Ivins and Grace areas.
Mr. Benson married Venice Naomi Ashbaker on Sept. 4, 1934, at Pocatello. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple. Mr. Benson was the owner and operator of Benson Auto Service and Grace Equipment Co. in Grace prior to his retirement.
He was a high priest in the Grace LDS 1st Ward, where he had served in various positions.
He was a member of the Grace Lions Club with 35 years of 100 percent attendance. He has served on the Grace School Board and the Grace Cemetery District Board.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Venice, of Grace; one son and one daughter (twins) and their spouses; Louis J. and Dona Benson of Chubbuck, and Lois and Dean Burton of Cleveland; 10 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Bonna Lou Benson, a grandson, Bill Benson, a great granddaughter, Elizabeth Benson, two sisters and three brothers. Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at noon at the Grace LDS Stake Center with Bishop George Kimball officiating. Burial will be in the Grace Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Grace Library. Services are under the direction of Sims Funeral Home.
