"GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas — Dorothy Weedman Barnes, 87, of Grand Prairie, Texas passed away Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005 in Irving, Texas. She was born August 29, 1918 in Biscoe, Ark., and grew up in De Valls Bluff. She moved to Little Rock in 1940 where she lived until moving to Texas in 2000 to be near her children. Dorothy retired from the University of Arkansas for Medical Science, division of laboratory animal medicine in 1987. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and the Robert Moore Bible Class. Dorothy spent her retirement years traveling the world and visiting her children and grandchildren. Beyond her family and church, her main interests were current affairs and investing.
"She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman Benedict and Sarah Hilma Malmstrom Weedman ; her husband, Ralph B. Barnes; three brothers and a sister. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Engel of Carrollton, Texas; son, Ralph Barnes and wife, Carolyn of Arlington, Texas; four grandchildren ; a great-grandson ; and a host of family and friends.
"A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30, 2005 at Pinecrest Memorial Park, Little Rock, Ark. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth, 5800 West 12th Street, Little Rock, Ark. (501) 661-9111. Her family respectfully requests that those desiring to send memorials in her name may do so to Asbury United Methodist Church, 1700 Napa Valley, Little Rock, Ark. 72212 or to a charity of choice."
