Clarence Wharton Killed at Dugger Friday by Falling Slate.
Clarence Wharton, aged sixteen years, a driver in the Indiana & Chicago company's mines at Dugger was instantly killed last Friday morning by falling slate. Wharton was at work in an entry when a mass of slate weighing about 300 tons fell on him crushing him in a horrible manner and resulting in death instantly. Wharton was a son of Charles Wharton the assistant mine boss. Sullivan Union July 8, 1903
