Venango Citizen Press, October 24, 1928:
Thomas Prather Goodwin aged 40 years, passed away at his home at Prathers Corners, Cherrytree township, at 5:10 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, following a long illness. Hope had been entertained that he might recover and his passing came as a distinct shock to his large circle of acquaintances.
Mr. Goodwin was the youngest son of David and Nancy Prather Goodwin and was born on February 24, 1888. He spent his boyhood at Sunville and on October 22, 1913 was united in marriage with Miss Mary Davison of that place, who survives him, with two children, Evelyn and Clair Goodwin. A daughter, Marjorie Ileen, died in infancy. There is also one brother, Lawrence Goodwin, of Sunville, and the following half-brothers and sisters: Dr. Ralph Goodwin, of Pittsburgh; Prof. H.W. Goodwin, of Santa Anna, Cal.; Mrs. Sarah Bushnell, of Yorbalinda, Cal.; Mrs. Edith Culp, of Berea, Cal., and Mrs. Laura Davison, of Whittier, Cal.
Mr. Goodwin had served as president of the Cherrytree township school board and was greatly interested in the upbuilding of rural schools. He was also a member of Sugarcreek Grange, No. 1131. For seven years Mr. Goodwin was employed at Akron, O., by the Firestone Tire and Rubber Co., giving up his position because of failing health, returning to the farm at Prathers Corners. He was held in high esteem by a large acquaintance.
