He was a native of Beacon, N.Y. He had lived in Interlachen for the past 63 years, coming from Beacon, N.Y. He had attended Melrose High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving for 14 years in three tours of duty. He was retired from Florida Power and Light, where he had worked for 25 years. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 10164, in Interlachen and the Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 183, in Interlachen.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Nielsen.
He is survived by two daughters, Paula Harrison of Interlachen and Cathy Dougherty of Ocala; three sons, Paul Nielsen of St. Augustine, John Palmer and Steve Palmer, both of Interlachen; sister, Lorraine Allen of Interlachen; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Interlachen with Rev. Charles Litzell and Rev. James Roberson officiating. Burial will be in Pineview Cemetery with military honors given by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 10164.
