Lorraine G. Allen, 92, of Interlachen, passed away Monday, October 28, 2013 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center following an extended illness. A native of Beacon, New York, Lorraine was the Valedictorian of the Melrose High School Class of 1937 and attended the Florida State College for Women in Tallahassee. While attending Melrose HS, she was a member of the girls basketball team and returned to Melrose for many high school reunions. She returned to Putnam County (Interlachen) in 1964 following her husband's retirement from the U.S. Air Force. Lorraine owned and operated the Lorraine Allen Income Tax Service in Interlachen for many years and served on the Interlachen Town Council. Lorraine attended St. Andrews Episcopal Church and was also involved in the Cancer Support Group. In her leisure, Lorraine enjoyed bowling, knitting and crocheting, making baskets, birdwatching and, in years past, had loved to fish.
During her husband's military career, they lived in many places including Japan, Canada, Michigan, Wisconsin, Kentucky, South Carolina, and multiple stations in Florida.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Bernice Allen of Interlachen, a son, Douglas (Elizabeth) Allen of Inverness, 3 daughters, Barbara (Walter) Allen of Phoenix, AZ, Gayle (William) Freeman of Lenexa, KS and Lisabeth (Sissy) (Tim) Weber of Palatka, 3 grandchildren, Allen Gibson, John Gibson and Lee Sheridan and 5 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 2, 2013, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Interlachen with The Rev. Diane Reeves officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 600 Zeagler Dr., Palatka, FL 32177 or to Rodeheaver Boys Ranch, 380 Boys Ranch Road, Palatka, FL 32177.
