Michael Bacsick Sr., 88, formerly of Roosevelt Street, Hazleton, died Saturday afternoon at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He had been a guest at St. Luke Manor, Hazleton. Born in Harwood, he was the son of the late John and Merie (Stephnishen) Bacsick, and a member of St. John's Byzantine Catholic Church, Hazleton. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the rank of corporal in Africa, Germany and France, earning three Bronze Stars, one Battle Star and three Presidential Citations. Prior to retiring, he was employed by Peoples Bank.

Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his wife, Anna Catherine (Hobensack) Bacsick; brothers, John, Robert and Vincent; and sisters, Merie, Anna Ciochon, Helen Morbella, Susan Semuta , Margaret Martin, Mary, and Olga.

The funeral will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. from the Frank J. Bonin Funeral Home Inc., 542 N. Wyoming St., Hazleton. Divine Liturgy with Office of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. John's B.C. Church. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Drums. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
