Evening Times, Cumberland, Maryland, April 24, 1969: "Meyersdale--John Cross, 86, of RD 4, died yesterday at Meyersdale Community Hospital. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, he was a son of the late John and Margaret (Gowans) Cross. A retired Western Maryland Railway telegrapher with 48 years service, he was a member of the Order of Railroad Telegraphers and of First Presbyterian Church, Barton. Surviving are his widow, Mary (Shockey) a son, Dr. John C. Cross, here; three daughters, Mrs. Mary L. Reeder, Mercersburg; Mrs. Katherine Williams, Baltimore, and Mrs. A. Jean Doriguzzi, Placentia, Calif.; a brother, Matthew Cross, Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Kastell {sic-Casteel} and Mrs. Jesse Stanley, Keyser, and 10 grandchildren. The body is at the Price Funeral Home where friends will be received after 7 p.m. today. A service will be conducted there Saturday at 2 p.m. Rev. Victor Vogel will officiate and interment will he in White Oaks Cemetery."
