George G. Cross, 57, died at his home in Greenville Township, Meyersdale RD 3, Monday, August 22, at 11:50 a.m., as the result of a cerebral hemorrhage. He was born April 18, 1892, in Clearfield County, a son of John and Margaret (Gowens) Cross, both natives of Glasgow, Scotland. Mr. Cross was a World War I veteran, having served overseas with the Transportation Corps. Since 1919 he was employed by the Western Maryland railway as telegrapher. He was a life-long member of the Evangelical and Reformed Church, affiliating with Amity Church of Meyersdale several years ago when he and his family moved nearer to Meyersdale than they formerly lived. He was a member of the Meyersdale Lions Club. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Shockey Cross, and one son, David G. Cross, a pre-medical student at Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster; also the following brothers and sisters: Alex of Barton, Md., John of Sand Patch RD 1, Matthew of Mt. Sinai, N.Y.; Miss Jessie Cross of Keyser, W.Va., and Mrs. Ralph Casteel, Keyser, W.Va. His body was brought to Amity Reformed Church, Meyersdale, at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon to lie in state until funeral services at 2:30, which were conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Edwin C. Nagle. Interment was made in the Berlin I.O.O.F. Cemetery under the direction of W.C. Price and Son. Meyersdale Republican, August 25, 1949
