CRESSE, GEORGE, was born May 16, 1808, in Cape May county, N. J., came to Springfield, Ill., in Aug., 1839. In the spring of 1841 he returned to New Jersey, and was there married, Sept. 2, 1841, to Maria Marcy, who was born Feb. 17, 1823, near Hartford, Conn. He came with his bride back to Sangamon county, arriving Nov. 10, 1841. They moved to Menard county, and had four children. The family moved back to Sangamon county, near Pleasant Plains, in 1857, where they had one child, Cordelia. Of their five children--
