Maria was born near Hartford, CT. She married George in NJ on Sept. 2, 1841 before moving to Sangamon County, IL. They had five children: Ellen, Edward M., Catherine L., Matthew W., and Cordelia S. Cresse.


Maria Marcy Cresse is a direct descendant of both William Brewster (1566-1644) and Stephen Hopkins (1581-1644) who were passengers on the Mayflower.(Randy Nickell)
