Barbara Johs Kessler
(1922 - 2013)
A memorial service will held at 1:00 pm Monday, October 21, at Springfield Memorial Funeral Home for Barbara (Johs) Kessler of Eugene. She died Oct. 14 of age related causes at age 90. Barbara was born in Hague, North Dakota on 11-16-1922 to Michael Johs and Katherine (Zahn) Johs. She was the 10th of 15 children. She moved to San Diego in 1941 to wed Andrew Kessler, from South Dakota. They both worked in the war time aircraft industry. In 1946, At the end of the war, she and Andrew moved to Marcola, Oregon where they lived on a small farm with a wood burning stove, no electricity or indoor plumbing. They moved to Springfield and finally to Pleasant Hill. Barbara worked in the home and also in several different occupations - nurses aide, potato chip factory, waitress, bartender and cook at LCC. She is known for her love of garage sales and ability to find real bargains which were generously shared with her family. Barbara will be greatly missed by her five children, Ernie, Donna, Gerri, Linn, Mike and by her 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren.
Andrew preceded her in death in 1987.
