Of patriotic ardor he had an example before his eyes in the person of Samuel Hanson, Esq. of Charles County, who, at a very critical season of the war, remitted to General Washington, as a gratuity, and out of his own means, the sum of eight hundred pounds sterling in specie for the use of the American army. (The family story is that Gen. Washington purchased shoes with the money for the Continental Army).

4. Sarah Hawkins Hanson (12 AUG 1750-15 Aug 1822) m. Dr. William Beanes
5. Samuel Hanson III (1752-16 DEC 1830)m. Mary Key/Kay 29 APR 1777 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
6. Elizabeth Hanson(b.1767) She married John Anderson/Addison.
7. Anna Hanson (1766-13 JAN 1793)m. Nicholas Lingan 15 OCT 1789.
8. Eleanor Hanson.(1768-1796) She m. Maj. Henry Hendley Chapman.

In 1774 he married Anne Browne, the widow of Samuel Claggett and Robert Horner. No known children from 2nd marriage.
